How to engage an audience without relying on high energy or hearty humour

Yes we have pivoted to online and created a new event as well!

Why this session

Engaging audiences is a critical speaking skill. The ability to connect with the audience, to earn their attention, and to bring them with you through some pretty tricky topic terrains, ensures maximum impact for your message.

But what if you are not a larger-than-life personality, able to bring the energy you want the audience to feel? Or what if you just don’t have a funny bone in your body and can’t crack a joke to save your life? Without relying on these go-to audience engagement favourites, how do we get people to ‘lean in’ when we speak?

What we’ll cover

In this session we will explore creative engagement strategies that don’t just rely on humour or high energy (not that there is anything wrong with these, we just want to expand our repertoire!). We’ve convinced three talented speakers to share their go-to engagement strategies with us – the ones they use to successfully get their audiences on board, each and every time.

In this session you will:

  • Experience different audience engagement strategies
  • Explore ways to enhance your own audience engagement
  • Share and discuss creative ideas in peer working groups

How we’ll deliver it

Using a workshop format (online), the showcase segments will be short and sharp, leaving plenty of time for Q&A and group work. Our aim is to make this fast-paced, interactive and full of audience participation, so come prepared to share your own strategies and learn from your peers as well.

P.S We heard the feedback from the national listening sessions from last year. Top of the list was more discussion, more workshopping, more interactive peer learning. Rest assured; we’ve got you covered!

P.P.S This session is now online due to COVID in our community and our desire to keep our members safe.

P.P.P.S Please note the change of date in the month (sessions will now be every second* Monday of the month).

Presidents welcome for 2022

To kick off the evening our new President Anneli Blundell, CSP will briefly introduce the new leadership team, the vision, the agenda and the intentions for the Vic/Tas chapter in 2022.

The team is excited and committed to creating a mastermind community through a peer learning environment. We do hope you’ll join us!
